# Euno Slack Assistant

The Euno Slack Assistant brings Euno's data-model context into Slack. Ask about tables, dashboards, lineage, ownership, definitions, and other catalog metadata without leaving a channel or direct message.

The assistant uses your linked Euno identity and active Slack persona. Your persona determines which Euno resources and actions are available to you.

{% hint style="info" %}
This page covers Euno's native Slack Assistant. If your organization runs its own Slack bot through n8n, Claude, and Euno MCP, see [Custom Slack Integration (n8n + Claude)](/ai/slack-integration-n8n-+-claude.md).
{% endhint %}

## For administrators: set up the assistant

### Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure:

* You can manage account settings in Euno.
* You can install or approve the Euno app in the Slack workspace.
* You have at least one non-system [persona](/setup-configuration/personas.md) available to assign. Self-serve users must already have a usable persona; administrators choose one when approving other users.
* You know the Slack workspace ID. In Slack's browser URL, it is the value beginning with `T` after `/client/`.

### 1. Connect the Slack workspace

1. In Euno, open **Account Settings → Linked Accounts**.
2. On the **Slack** card, click **Configure**.
3. Complete Slack's authorization flow. A Slack administrator may need to approve the requested permissions.
4. In Slack, invite `@EunoBot` to every public or private channel where people should use the assistant.
5. Return to **Linked Accounts** and refresh the Slack card. The card lists the channels that the bot has joined.

If Slack is already connected for workflow notifications, you can use the existing connection. Invite `@EunoBot` to the assistant channels and continue to the next step.

### 2. Configure assistant access

On the Slack card, click **Assistant** or open the card menu and select **Assistant settings**. Configure the following fields:

| Setting                           | What it controls                                                                                                                                                                      |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Assistant availability** | Enables or disables assistant interactions for the connected workspace. |
| **Allowed workspace IDs** | Slack workspace IDs that may use this Euno account. Add the connected workspace ID, such as `T012345678`. The assistant fails closed if the workspace is not listed. |
| **Self-serve link email domains** | Email domains eligible for authenticated self-serve linking, such as `example.com`. A matching Slack email is a hint only; the user must still sign in to Euno and confirm the link. |
| **Admin approval channel** | Slack channel ID that receives access requests, such as `C012345678`. Invite `@EunoBot` to this channel, especially if it is private. |
| **Admin approvers** | Euno email addresses or user IDs allowed to approve or deny requests from Slack. An approver must first link their own Slack identity. |
| **Default persona** | Fallback Slack persona when no valid Slack selection exists, including access requests where an administrator has not selected another persona. Only non-system personas can be used. |
| **Denial cooldown** | Number of hours a denied user must wait before requesting access again, from 1 to 720 hours. |

Click **Save** when you are finished.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Enable the assistant only after adding the connected Slack workspace to **Allowed workspace IDs**. Enabling the toggle alone is not enough.
{% endhint %}

### 3. Test the setup

In Slack, run:

```
/euno help
```

Then mention the bot in a channel where it is a member:

```
@EunoBot Which dashboard shows weekly active customers?
```

The bot posts **Thinking...** in a thread and replaces it with the answer when the run finishes.

## Link your Euno account

The first time you use the assistant, Euno must connect your Slack identity to your Euno user and persona.

### Self-serve linking

Euno offers self-serve linking when all of the following are true:

* Your Slack profile email matches an active user in the Euno account.
* The email domain is listed under **Self-serve link email domains**.
* You are not interacting as an external Slack Connect user.

When eligible, Slack shows an ephemeral **Connect your Euno account** prompt:

1. Click **Connect your Euno account**.
2. Sign in to Euno if prompted.
3. Verify the Slack profile and expected Euno email shown on the page.
4. Click **Connect your Euno account** to confirm.
5. Return to Slack and ask your question again.

The link expires after 15 minutes and can be used only once. If it expires, use the assistant again to generate a new link.

{% hint style="info" %}
Slack profile email is never treated as proof of identity. Euno creates the link only after the signed-in Euno user matches the expected account user and explicitly confirms it.
{% endhint %}

### Request administrator access

Euno shows **Request Access** instead when it cannot safely offer self-serve linking. This includes unmatched emails, domains that are not eligible for self-serve linking, and external Slack Connect users.

1. Click **Request Access** in the ephemeral Slack prompt.
2. Wait for your Euno administrator to review the request.
3. After approval, Slack sends you a direct message with the assigned persona.
4. Ask your question again.

Administrators can review pending requests in either place:

* The configured Slack approval channel, using the persona selector and **Approve** or **Deny** buttons.
* **Account Settings → Linked Accounts → Slack → Assistant**, under **Pending access requests**.

A persona must be selected or supplied by the configured default before an administrator approves the request. If no Slack approval channel is configured, Euno attempts to notify linked admin approvers by direct message; requests remain available in the Euno web queue either way.

## Ask questions in Slack

### Mention EunoBot in a channel

Mention the bot to start a conversation:

```
@EunoBot What feeds the Executive Revenue dashboard?
```

The assistant answers in a Slack thread. Continue by replying in that thread; you do not need to mention the bot again. The thread retains the conversation's Euno context.

A channel assistant thread belongs to the Euno user who started it. If another person replies, Euno asks them to start a new Slack thread or direct message instead of mixing identities in one assistant conversation.

### Send EunoBot a direct message

Open a direct message with `@EunoBot` and ask a question. Later messages in that direct-message conversation keep the earlier assistant context.

### Use the `/euno` command

Run `/euno <query>` from any channel where the command is available:

```
/euno Find certified customer-retention dashboards
```

Slash-command answers are ephemeral, so only you can see them. Each `/euno <query>` is a new one-off assistant conversation; use a channel thread or direct message when you want follow-up context.

## Commands

| Command         | Purpose                                                                  |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `/euno <query>` | Ask a one-off question. The response is visible only to you.             |
| `/euno persona` | Show your active Slack persona and switch to another assigned persona. |
| `/euno status` | Show the linked Euno account, workspace, Euno user, and active persona. |
| `/euno unlink` | Remove the link between your Slack identity and Euno after confirmation. |
| `/euno help`    | Show the available commands.                                             |

## Personas and permissions

Your Slack persona controls the Euno context, data access, and tools used for every assistant response.

Use `/euno persona` to select from the non-system personas assigned to your Euno user. The selection applies only to the Slack Assistant; it does not change your active persona in the Euno web app. A persona change applies to subsequent Slack questions, including follow-ups in an existing assistant thread.

If an assigned persona is removed, Euno tries to move you to another valid persona and tells you about the change. If no valid persona is available, contact your Euno administrator.

## Message visibility and limits

* Answers to channel mentions are visible to everyone who can view that Slack thread.
* Direct-message answers are visible in your conversation with the bot.
* Slash-command answers, account-linking prompts, access errors, and rate-limit notices are ephemeral and visible only to you.
* Access-request details sent to an admin approval channel are visible to members of that channel. Use a restricted channel when the requester's name and email should not be broadly visible.
* Questions are limited to 4,000 characters.
* The assistant accepts up to 10 requests per user per minute and 100 requests per workspace per minute. If a limit is reached, Slack tells you when to retry.
* Long answers may be split across multiple Slack messages in the same conversation.

## Unlink your account

Run `/euno unlink` and click **Unlink** to remove your Slack-to-Euno identity link and Slack persona selection. This does not disconnect the Euno Slack app for the workspace.

The confirmation message tells you whether you can use self-serve linking again. If you are not eligible, an administrator must approve a new access request before you can use the assistant again.

## Troubleshooting

### EunoBot does not respond

Ask your Euno administrator to verify that:

* **Assistant availability** is enabled.
* The current Slack workspace ID is listed under **Allowed workspace IDs**.
* The Euno Slack integration is connected to the expected workspace.
* `@EunoBot` has been invited to the channel.

If the bot responds in direct messages but not in a channel, channel membership is the most likely cause.

### The account-link page is expired or already used

Return to Slack and use the assistant again to generate a new link. Confirm it within 15 minutes while signed in as the expected Euno user.

### Slack asks you to request access

Your Slack profile did not qualify for self-serve linking. Submit the request and ask your Euno administrator to review **Pending access requests**. External Slack Connect users always use the administrator approval path.

### No persona is available

Ask an administrator to assign at least one non-system persona to your Euno user. Administrators should also check the Slack Assistant's **Default persona** setting.

### A thread is connected to a different Euno user

Start a new Slack thread with `@EunoBot` or send the bot a direct message. Euno does not allow different linked users to share one assistant conversation.

### Your message is rejected

Shorten messages longer than 4,000 characters. If Slack reports a rate limit, wait for the displayed retry time before asking again.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.euno.ai/ai/slack-assistant.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
